چکیده

The susceptibility of Aedes aegypti to temefos was evaluated by means of samples of eggs and larvae from four large counties in the state of Ceará (Fortaleza, Barbalha, Juazeiro do Norte and Crato). The technique standardized by the World Health Organization for tests with larvicides was used. The CL50 of eight samples from populations of Aedes was determined, as were their respective resistance ratios, compared to the CL50 of the susceptible Rockefeller strain. All populations submitted to the experiment showed resistance to temefos, with resistance ratios varying between 8 and 16. Analysis of these results reinforces prior evidence regarding the dissemination of temefos resistance in different locations in the state, subjected to considerable pressure for control in recent decades. The larvicide may lose its effectiveness if an urgent attempt is not made to reestablish the susceptibility of Aedes aegypti in these areas, profoundly affecting control campaigns currently under way.

Insecticide susceptibility of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus across Thailand.

Aedes aegypti (L.) and Aedes albopictus (Skuse), two important vectors of dengue fever and dengue hemorrhagic fever, were collected from Mae Sot, Nakhon Sawan, Nakhon Ratchasima, Surat Thani, and Phatthalung, Thailand, from July 2003 to April 2004. The patterns of insecticide susceptibility to temephos, malathion, and permethrin of both Ae. aegypti and Ae. albopictus larvae were determined. Ae....

[Susceptibility of Aedes aegypti to temephos and cypermethrin insecticides, Brazil].

Bioassays were performed in order to detect the susceptibility of Aedes aegypti to the chemical insecticides temephos and cypermethrin. The results showed that this species is susceptible to temephos and presents resistance to cypermethrin.

Resistance of Aedes aegypti from the state of São Paulo, Brazil, to organophosphates insecticides.

Since the reintroduction of Aedes aegypti in the state of S o Paulo, in the middle of the 1980-decade, organophosphate insecticides are being used to control the dengue vector. In 1996, an annual program for monitoring the susceptibility of Ae. aegypti to the insecticides was implemented. Some of the results of this monitoring program are presented. Ae. aegypti populations from ten localities h...

Spatial distribution and esterase activity in populations of Aedes (Stegomyia) aegypti (Linnaeus) (Diptera: Culicidae) resistant to temephos.

INTRODUCTION The need for studies that describe the resistance patterns in populations of Aedes aegypti (Linnaeus) in function of their region of origin justified this research, which aimed to characterize the resistance to temephos and to obtain information on esterase activity in populations of Aedes aegypti collected in municipalities of the State of Paraíba. METHODS Resistance to temephos...

Current resistance status to temephos in Aedes aegypti from different regions of Argentina.

In Argentina, more than 25,000 cases of dengue were reported in the summer of 2009, even in provinces where the disease was formerly absent. We analysed the susceptibility levels to the larvicide temephos in seven populations of Aedes aegypti, the primary vector of dengue, collected during summer 2007/2008, using the susceptible Rockefeller strain as a control. Although no control failures were...
